On December 19, 2025, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit affirmed the U.S. Patent Trial and Appeal Board’s ruling in IPR2022-01222 that Apple had failed to prove the claims of Smart Mobile Technologies’ U.S. Patent No. 8,982,863 unpatentable.
